Bird watching in Sri Lanka
— 01About us

A family of
trackers & guides.

From the edge of Yala National Park, we have spent the last twelve years showing the world what makes southern Sri Lanka unforgettable.

Our story

Started in 2012 —

one jeep,
one family.

Explore Lanka Wild Tours began as a single jeep and a pair of binoculars. We were birdwatchers before we were tour guides — spending mornings at the Tissa tank tracking pelicans and storks, afternoons in Yala learning leopard paths from the old trackers.

Word spread slowly. First came local families, then photographers from Colombo, then birders from Europe who wanted more than a standard safari circuit. They wanted dawn departures, hidden waterholes, and the quiet tracks where no other jeeps go.

Today we run private trips across the south — Yala, Bundala, Lunugamvehera, the hill country train, Galle Fort, and the surf coast. But the ethos hasn't changed: small groups, local guides, and the wildlife always comes first.

— 02What drives us

Not a tour factory.
A family craft.

Born here

We grew up in Tissamaharama — between the paddy fields and park gates. This is home before it was ever a business.

Wildlife first

Every route is designed around the animals: their habits, migration, feeding grounds. We work with nature, not against it.

Small & slow

Maximum six guests per jeep. No convoys, no loud radios, no chasing sightings. Silence is part of the experience.

12 years guiding

Over a decade of seasonal knowledge — leopard territories, lagoon levels, bird migration windows.
